I live in the shadows, that place between light and dark. I can live in obscurity without being in total darkness. I can move into the light but retreat when I become too exposed. It is the place that I feel most at home. Always wishing to be in the light, but only safe in the shadows.

Untitled

I wonder if the Art Gallery knows that the most beautiful piece they have is outside on their wall?

Shadow Drifts 6

I love the tiling effect the drift shapes and their shadows produce here. Gorgeous!

Shadow Drifts 5

This is an incredible picture, not only for the effect of the three shadows (I call them the three wise men), but because one is like a cloud, in that it forms a figure with its shape. A closer examination of the shadow on the left reveals a robed man holding his hand aloft, with a bird in the palm of his hand. One of the most emotionally moving pictures that I have ever taken.

Shadow Drifts 4

Normally I find the shadows accentuate the beauty of the drifts, but in this one I find the shadows dominate, or at least share, the viewers eye, creating their own picture. Nice duality.

Snow Drifts 3

I love the straited pattern of the drift lines and the shadows.

Shadow Drifts 2

I love the subtle "pocket" created by the shadow in this drift

Shadow Drifts 1

After my earlier post of a shadow in a snow drift, I found myself becoming increasingly fascinated with the combination of snow drifts (a new blog, perhaps) and shadows. I went for a drive the other day to "hunt" for snow drifts and wasn't disappointed. Unlike my first drift post, these drifts were hard packed and sculpted and provided me with some incredible shots.

I loved this picture because the drift provided a beautiful backdrop for the tiny stones laying on it, each accompanied by its own little shadow.
